Forced To Part Ways, Then Reunited Once Again
Here's a fun story about a board thatβs got a bit of an interesting life behind it.
In 2018 I spent about two months exploring the wild surf and culture of Bali in Indonesia. During my time there, I watched way too many guys and girls riding twin fins having the time of their life. The high speed, the loose look, I was hooked. So I bought my first brand new board from @redz_surfboard, a local board shaper up the road from my $8/night hostel in Caangu.
This little 5'7 channeled twin fish was honestly a little more advanced than my ego would let me believe, but I must have pushed on 3 times a day, even in bad conditions determined to master it. My intent was to sell this board (along with my 7'4 Purple mini-mal) before flying back home to Canada. As it turned out, letting go of two boards that I'd spent almost every waking minute on in a surfing paradise was not the simplest task (thanks emotions). π
Fast forward to Long Beach, Canada in 2019. My two Bali boards go missing off my then mobile tiny-home-minivan, Monty. Stolen, right off my roof in the parking lot. I called every shop, resort, and local I could to ask if they'd seen anything. I posted on the local community pages, hoping someone my have seen their whereabouts, but no luck.
Well, now it's November, 2021 and GUESS WHAT POPS UP ON FB MARKETPLACE. (see pic 3). My adrenaline instantly surges, that's my board! All painted up and shoddily covered to hide the obvious identifiers. I'll spare you the details on getting it back, but the person who had it had traded for it while living on the west coast. No harm no foul. But I got it back. A little dinged up, and covered in nasty blue sparypaint and stickers (which cleaned off easily).
One of my precious Bali Boards that had been across the planet with me, then stolen for two years, was now back. π
